Updated: Mar 12, 2022

People in Birkat Seira in North Darfur demonstrated against the murder of a university student by a militiaman on Tuesday. Demonstrators reportedly torched the military headquarters.

University of Nyala engineering student Fadul Harun Yousif was killed by a member of a paramilitary group in the market in Birkat Seira market when the militiaman opened fire. Yousif was shot in the head.

Endangered Scholars Worldwide is deeply concerned about the ongoing violence toward and targeting of students in North Darfur. The tensions in Sudan have a profoundly unsettling effect on academic freedom and represent a grave threat to higher education on a national scale.
