Sidig Noreen Abdalla

In Brief

Sidig Noreen Ali Abdalla, a professor at West Kordofan University who served as a supervisor of the Greater Darfur Students' Association, was arrested on January 16, 2014 for his alleged advocacy on the situation in Darfur. Formal charges have yet to be pressed.

Case History

Despite the lack of charges, Abdalla has been detained without charge by the Sudanese National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) in El-Obeid, town in the state of North Kordofan. The period of his detainment exceeds the legal period of up to four and a half months permitted under the country’s National Security Act of 2010.

According to the report by the African Centre for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS), there are growing safety concerns for the detained scholar.

Abdalla has been denied any legal representation and has not been allowed to contact his family. He is the father of four children, and when he was arrested in 2014, his son was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Khartoum.
