Endangered Scholars Worldwide is gravely concerned over the ongoing detention of Homa Hoodfar, a Canadian-Iranian professor of anthropology at Concordia University in Montreal. We call for letters, emails, and faxes respectfully urging authorities in Iran to investigate the situation; to ensure that any charges or convictions related to Hoodfar's peaceful exercise of protected human rights are lifted; and to address her case in a manner consistent with internationally recognized standards of due process, fair trial, and detention in accordance with Iran’s obligations under international law.
Hoodfar, whose research topic is women in the Muslim world, was arrested by Iranian Revolutionary Guard, the latest arrest in a series of detentions of dual citizen Iranians.
The professor was initially detained on March 10 and was then released, but she was not allowed to leave Iran. After a series of interrogations, Hoodfar was arrested again last week and transferred to Evin Prison.
